A lot has been done about zombies. Years ago, a cult favorite. Today, dare I say it is clawing its way to mainstream culture. I believe zombies have lost their flair for fear. Many theories abound on how to survive a zombie attack, or even how to survive and thrive in a post-zombie-apocalyptic wasteland. I am guilty of a Twilight-like obsession with zombies. I have watched Zack Snyder’s Dawn of the Dead so many times to lift my spirits, my wife began to worry (more than usual). Here’s the thing. I approach the whole zombie thing like I approach the whole God thing. I know that there is a distinct possibility that one or both exists, but I have not been able to prove it yet. The one big difference is difficult for me to escape: there seems to be a greater likelihood of proof, solid Biological proof, that zombies exist. Do not get me wrong. I am not against God, I just do not call him that. I do not call him anything; the verdict is still out and it has been almost forty years of passive-aggressively pondering his/her…whatever…existence.
Catholic School did not help, trust me!
I spent about a month in a funk regarding this issue. It all began after I saw the movie Knowing. It severely bummed me out (Not because of Nicolas Cage…closet fan). What did I spend all those years Catholic School for? We worship aliens? I expected L. Ron Hubbard to pop up and say that Catholicism was actually an off-shoot of Scientology (visions of Pope Pius Cruise…yeesh!). But I really started though think about all those end of the world, apocalyptic movies and became seriously depressed. I mean, if Hollywood knows when the world is going to end, that’s good enough for me…Hell, my credit sucks, anyway.

Back to Zombies.
I think that the many incarnations of our drooling brain hungry buddies has a point. A point that goes to the spirit of human nature. Think about it. We have to know that our existence in this universe is tentative at best (just ask Al Gore). Political diatribes aside, we may be entering into a period when everything we do to and for the earth is crucial……AND THEN COMES THE ZOMBIE HOARD!!
God and zombies. Both have come a long way over the years. Even though God, or some variation of him, has existed for far longer than zombies (not much, if you count Lazurus), I think that they both exist at odds with each other. Creator vs. decimator of creation.
I see sequel potential.

Catholic school nearly made ME a zombie, but just escaped by the skin of my teeth. Instead of being undead, I am post alive. There's a big difference, you know. Fun article, well written!
very sad to see this!!!
Haha. Entertaining hub. I think consumerism is kind of like being a zombie!
